Zoo Field Trip and Christmas Concert

Friday was a fun day at school, and it ended up being our last day before Christmas vacation. The president of Venezuela decided to cancel all school from now until January 6. I'm actually very sad about this turn of events because while we had fun on Friday, I had planned to have a Christmas party in class this coming week and I didn't really get to say good-bye to many of my students.

On Friday, the whole elementary school went to the zoo. We had fun walking around in groups, feeding the animals carrots, playing games, and eating lunch. I enjoyed being with other grades and watching my students being big buddies. Each group worked on a photo scavenger hunt while we walked around. While my group certainly didn't do well, we did have fun taking some pictures. Enjoy our pictures from the zoo!

Being monkeys with the monkeys!

"Miss Loid, get a picture of me feeding the zebra!"
"Ok, but it doesn't really look like he will actually find your carrot."

The girls loved the piglets. The preschooler in my group
enjoyed helping aworker dump out bags of carrots for them

Most of the 8 kids I walked around with. I had one from every grade.

A view of the zoo from above.
Don't you wish you could go to such a tropical looking zoo?
Touching the turtles
I was afraid for the chicks' lives
as kids ran around catching them.

I really was there! See?

Friday night, the kids had their Christmas concert. They did a great job. My class sang Go Tell it on the Mountain, Toby Mac's O Come All Ye Faithful (also danced to this song), and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. 12 of my 14 students came, and they looked so nice and dressed up!

Praises and Prayer Requests
-Safety as teachers and students travel this Christmas.
-Smooth transition when we come back to school in January
-Health - I have one parent who has been very sick all month. Also, with going back to Chicago, I'm worried about how my body will adjust to the cold.
-Visas - Four of us are going to our local consulates this break to bring in our visa application and hopefully receive our work visas. There is still a degree of uncertainty. Please pray that we will receive the visas without problems and in time to catch our planes back. Others are working on some needed paperwork during this break.
-Wisdom as I work on changing the way I do Bible class
-Second quarter is finished!
-We found sugar this morning (and waited in line for almost an hour to buy it)!
-The zoo trip went well and was fun!
-My class did a great job at the Christmas concert, despite being very nervous and feeling unprepared!
